As part of a broader family-led succession strategy aimed at extending a series of family-linked leadership moves across Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate, Dangote Group, Mr Jamil Mohammed Abubakar, an aviation professional, has been appointed Managing Director of Infrastructure & Logistics by his father-in-law, Aliko Dangote.
The appointment, effective April 20, 2026, following recent senior roles given to Aliko Dangote’s daughters, puts Abubakar in charge of the group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform, a core pillar of its Vision 2030 strategy to build pan-African logistics networks.
The Group’s Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, in a memo, informed the staff that Abubakar would oversee the Group’s expansion into new port and infrastructure assets across Nigeria and the continent, and report directly to him.
“As we pursue our Vision 2030 agenda… Mr Abubakar will lead the Group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform”, adding that the company expects his leadership to “unlock new trade corridors that strengthen Dangote’s industrial and export footprint”, he revealed.
Dangote’s succession approach mirrors a broader African trend of consolidating control by entrusting key roles to family, as the group targets $100 billion in enterprise value by 2030.
Mr Jamil Abubakar began his professional career as a pilot, with quality experience in commercial aviation, having worked across IRS Airlines, Azman Air, NG Eagle and XE Jets, and served in various capacities such as Chief Pilot at Azman Air and NG Eagle,
With over 14 years in aviation and governance experience, he is expected to drive operational improvements and expansion into new infrastructure assets.
Mr Jamil Abubakar, son of former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, is married to Fatima Dangote, the billionaire’s third and youngest daughter, who is a senior executive within the group.
