The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun Central Senatorial District on Thursday adopted the senator currently representing the district, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the consensus candidate of the party for the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The endorsement took place at the Party stakeholders meeting held at Premises of MKO Abiola Sport Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta, the State capital.
Announcing the decision of the stakeholders, Governor Dapo Abiodun described Salisu, who was his Chief of Staff during his first term in office, as a dependable party man, a reliable politician and an administrator per excellence.
He assured all and sundry that the senator would continue his good work and make adjustments in areas he had not touched during his first term.
Speaking at the meeting, the consensus gubernatorial candidate of the party, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, implored party members to give the same support they had shown him to Senator Salisu for the benefits of all the constituents and the overall well-being of the district.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Salisu, a Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS) and a first timer in the Senate, expressed gratitude to party members for the overwhelming support given to him to be able to run for the second term in the Nigerian Senate, promising that he would justify the confidence reposed in him if he finally returned to the senate for the second term.
Salisu, who holds degrees in Computer Science and Management from the University of Lagos, including a B.Sc., M.Sc., and MBA, with executive training from Harvard Kennedy School, chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity and also deputises commitee on Media and Public Affairs.
He has been leading efforts on the Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, supporting digital journalism through equipment donations, and promoting education by providing free JAMB forms to students in his district.
Meanwhile, before politics, the ICT expert has worked with major firms such as Total, Mobil, and ETB, from where he later founded an ICT company, Simplex Automation Systems.
